There, she was a substitute teacher for the Department of De- fense for the past four years while her husband was stationed at Kadena Air Base. Before her stint overseas, Jae- ger served as marketing coordinator for The CashLINQ Group in Spokane, Washington. DR. LINDA BLUTH has offcially retired from her position at the Maryland State Department of Edu- cation (MSDE), but a full schedule of speaking engage- ments, consulting work and other activities is keeping her plugged into the pupil transporta- tion community. Bluth has long been a key source of guidance on transporting students with disabilities, particularly through her presentations at industry events, her writing and her work at the MSDE, where she most recently served as special initiatives education program specialist. Although Bluth retired from her MSDE position on June 30, she is continuing to work part-time for the agency as a consultant. Bluth, who is a past president of the National Association for Pupil Trans- portation (NAPT), also recently com- pleted the ffth edition of the NAPT manual Transporting Children with Disabilities. NAPT Executive Direc- tor MIKE MARTIN said that people throughout the pupil transportation community, and particularly those in specialized transportation, have ben- efted from Bluth's work. "She is a thought leader who is al- ways on the leading edge, if not break- ing new ground," Martin said. "By the same token, she also has a deceptively deep knowledge of operations." JIM BEEKMAN has been named general manager of trans- portation at Hillsbor- ough County Public Schools in Tampa, Florida. The district runs one of the larg- est public school bus operations in the U.S., with about 948 route buses transporting more than 88,000 students daily. Beekman, who has more than 30 years of experience in the pupil transporta- tion industry (see "Fascinating Person- alities," starting on pg. 32), previously served as senior director of transporta- tion services at Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Florida. That dis- trict also operates one of the biggest public school bus operations in the nation, with about 903 route buses transporting 72,000 students daily. As of press time, a successor for Beek- man at Orange County Public Schools had not yet been appointed. ANDRES MONTES has been named senior manager of feet operations at Houston Indepen- dent School District (ISD). Montes previ- ously served as the district's shop fore- man since 2004. Houston ISD trans- ports 28,000 students daily with 922 route buses. Montes replaces MARK SWACKHAMER, who left Houston ISD in August to become assistant director of transportation at Humble (Texas) ISD. KRYSTAL JAEGER is the new communica- tions and marketing coordinator for the National School Transportation Asso- ciation in Alexandria, Virginia.
