The empowerment center is part of the Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia, S.C. "Our presence here is an expres- sion of the values which guide how our company does business in South Carolina and across the nation," said David Duke, CEO of National Ex- press Corp. "Whether it is the dona- tion of a bus or whether it is through our providing donated or discounted transportation services, direct fnan- cial support or the extraordinary vol- unteer work of our many associates, National Express works every day to showcase our commitment to being a good corporate citizen and to respect- ing people in all we do." Offcials said that more than a year ago, Duke and Rev. Charles Jackson forged a friendship in which they found commonality: a commitment to serve diverse communities that re- fects respect for people. "Having gotten to know the com- pany well over the past year, I can say that National Express Corpora- tion's values can be summarized as an uncompromising focus on safety and service, and a passionate respect for people and communities," Jack- son said. As a part of the donation, offcials said Thomas Built Buses assisted with the refurbishing of the bus, and Bridgestone Tires donated new tires.
