business watch Thomas Built produces 50,000th Saf-T-Liner C2 Thomas Built Buses celebrated a milestone in October with the delivery of its 50,000th Saf-T-Liner C2 school bus. The landmark Type C bus went to contractor Dean Transportation of Lansing, Mich. Thomas Built launched the Saf-T-Liner C2 model in 2004, basing it on extensive driver and customer input. The C2���s ergonomic driver cockpit and enhanced driver visibility are favorites with school bus drivers, according to Thomas Built. Also, the C2 offers a number of other features to enhance safety, including the use of structural adhesive to provide nearly double the strength of standard joining methods, company offcials said. In other news, Thomas Built recently recognized its best suppliers and presented the company���s 2012 Supplier of the Year award to Accuride Wheels of Evansville, Ind. Bergafex, a global provider of hose and tube assemblies in Holly, Mich., was named Most Improved Supplier. Collins delivers 134 propane buses to First Student CleanFUEL USA and Collins Bus Corp. recently delivered 134 propane-powered school buses to First Student Inc. The buses will be used by the school bus contractor to provide student transportation to Seattle Public Schools and Portland (Ore.) Public Schools. The purchase of the buses was made possible through a grant provided by the Department of Energy and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as part of a national effort to establish networks of propane refueling stations and incentivize the use of propanepowered vehicles. First Student received a grant of $890,000 toward the purchase of 89 buses for Portland Public Schools and $450,000 for 45 buses to be used in Seattle. Leonard Bus Sales launches Fla. operation Leonard Bus Sales has launched LBS South ��� a new sister company in Florida.���� LBS South LLC recently acquired the statewide distribution rights for IC Bus school and commercial buses for Florida. Offcials said LBS South and its 19 employees will operate as a separate company, and will bring the Leonard family���s commitment to customer service and support to the Florida school and commercial bus market. American Utility Metal rebrands as Crompion International Stainless steel producer American Utility Metals has changed its name to Crompion International LLC. Offcials said the name change and rebranding come as the company works to expand its global presence and its focus on creating solutions through new services and additional metallurgists on staff. Since 2000, the company has supplied and distributed Cromgard, a high-performance, low-nickel stainless steel, to a range of customers in a range of industries, including bus manufacturing.
